If you want to stay in a long-term relationship, the key to success is thinking long term. There are so many books and websites that praise the power of visualization. This means creating a mental image of the things you want to achieve. Everything starts with an idea and to stay positive throughout the entirety of whatever your journey may be the best strategy is visualization.

Long-term relationships are not easy to maintain. They will test your will power, patience, and cooperation. Conflicts in relationships often come from outside forces. These can include families, friends, and others. So you must also be active in maintaining relationships with people who have the ability to break you or your partners joy. This does not mean that you have to always agree with them, But if you try to have cordial, respectful relationships with these individuals this will make your long term relationships easier. You want to surround yourself with people who will cheer you on. It’s best People who are encouraging and want you to succeed.


People often say that in relationships you have to forgive and forget. Well, forgiveness is one of the greatest ways to show your love. Forgetting, on the other hand, isn’t possible. Trying to forget the problems from the past is reckless. It makes you naive. Understand that people make mistakes, but don’t let anyone take advantage of your kindness. Don’t hold things over your partners head. Let them move forward, this shows growth for your relationship. If they show no remorse then you can’t just forget. It’s a two-way street and respect must be met in the middle. Don’t be the person that blames your partner for everything. For this brings up feelings of resentment and discouragement.

Encourage Each Other

One of the most important factors that help to stay in a long-term relationship is encouraging each other. You want to support your partner through their struggles, just as you would want your partner to support you. There are so many aspects to encouragement, whether it is physically, financially, emotionally or spiritually, everyone needs support from his/her partner especially. You must trust that your partner will be there for you and encouragement is an open expression of believing in your partner.   Give trust and gain trust from your partner is essential to avoid having only a temporary relationship.

Communicate & Listen

Last but definitely not least, one of the key factors in staying in a long-term relationship is to communicate and listen. Communication is great, in order to know what your partner wants, they must tell you. On the flip side, you must actually listen to what they have to say. Understand your partner’s needs and wants is vital in order to stay in a long term relationship.

A relationship should be 50/50 just as you give effort, so should your partner. If you work on these key items, you will be able to stay in a long-term relationship.
